Søstrene Grene selects Venlo, The Netherlands as location for their new distribution center

Danish home decoration retailer Søstrene Grene has selected Venlo, the logistics hotspot location in The Netherlands, as the location for their new distribution center of 45.000 sqm.

BCI Global supported the company by conducting a detailed location analysis including multiple locations across the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and France and afterwards a detailed site selection, including fieldwork visits.

As a result Søstrene Grene decided to locate the warehouse in Venlo. The site, which is now under development, is planned to be operational in autumn 2025.

Venlo was selected primarily because of its position right in the middle of the service area for this new warehouse, including stores as well as e-commerce customers. Also the multimodal connections with the Port of Rotterdam were seen as a positive factors as the majority of the company’s products are entering Europe through Rotterdam.

Casper Wolf, senior consultant at BCI: “In the project significant attention was paid to labor availability, knowing that labor availability is tight in all logistics hotspots in Europe. The analysis showed that the sheer size of the labor pool in the Venlo area offers the potential for Søstrene Grene to find the right talent to work in the new center”.

Claus Tjaerby, Chief Supply Chain Officer of Søstrene Grene: “The BCI Global team supported us by conducting a fact-based, fully independent analysis of all relevant candidate regions and site options. This led us in a structured way to the decision to locate the new DC in Venlo”.

Johan Beukema, BCI’s Managing Partner Location Strategy and Site Selection: “This is a great example of a client that the BCI team was able to support from the very initial stage of the strategy development, through a wider fact-based location analysis covering multiple countries to a detailed site selection and final decision-making”.
