The top position of the Netherlands on various international competitiveness rankings is underlined by today’s presence of 14,000 foreign companies in our country. These American, Asian and non-Dutch European companies run production operations in the Netherlands, have set-up headquarters or marketing & sales offices, operate international distribution centers or chose the Netherlands as location for their R&D activities, employing now altogether 1.3 million people.

But the attractiveness of the Netherlands is under pressure: labor market challenges, lack of suitable sites and buildings, stricter environmental regulations, weakening fiscal advantages.

In this session the attractiveness of the Netherlands with its advantages and disadvantages will be discussed with a panel of experts, moderated by René Buck, CEO of Buck Consultants International.

  • Hilde van der Meer. Commissioner Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy.
  • Peter van Leeuwen. Director EMEA Logistics of Bausch & Lomb, a leading American contact lenses producer, operating a large European Distribution Center.
  • Eize de Boer. General Manager of Batavia Sciences, a biotech company with Korean majority shareholder CJ CheilJedang and currently building a new manufacturing plant in Leiden.
  • Stefano Grossi. Chief Product and Technology offices of the Canadian cloud enterprise accounting software FreshBooks, which has set up its European Headquarters, Engineering Hub, Sales Office and Customer Support Center in the Netherlands.
